This Is My Home: Stories of First Generation Immigrants
This Is My Home: Stories of First Generation Immigrants is a project that arose in response to the xenophobia, racism, and rampant fear-mongering unleashed by Trump's election. As the mixed-race daughter of two first generation immigrants, I wanted to respond to the hatred and terror leveled at newly-arrived Americans by offering a series of positive counter narratives.
Working with the Asian Counseling Referral Service, I attended activities at Club Bamboo, a social club for Asian American and Pacific Islander seniors in the Seattle area. For seniors with whom there was a language barrier, ACRS paired me with staff members who were able to serve as translators, and I was able to speak with Club Bamboo members about their journeys to the United States and their thoughts and feelings about the concept of home.
These works are currently on display as part of the Storefronts Seattle program.
