Performances and Lectures > Hold On Tight!

In 2016, I was paired with experimental puppeteer Kyle Loven in a performance series where two creative makers who don’t know each other and work in separate disciplines are tasked with creating a collaborative work. We identified a shared interest in exploring emotional vulnerability through absurdly dark humor, and created a twenty-minute piece that utilized projected shadow puppets, live performance, and a full recorded soundtrack to explore this line of inquiry: What if the human race was wiped out and only one man survived? And what if that man was a game show host? And what if he tried to keep the game show running? Our piece examined the erosion of human connection by showing the last episode of the last game show by the last man alive as he finally let go of trying to hold himself together. CityArts magazine later described it as “a hilariously bleak—or bleakly hilarious?—swipe at the apocalypse.” Photo credits Robert Wade.
