In 2011, I found my way out of a controlling relationship by means of a 5,000 mile bike ride (HERE you can read an essay I wrote about this for Washington Post); since then, bike travel has been an integral part of both my personal and professional lives. My interest in the bicycle as a tool for personal empowerment led me (as always) to historical research, and I give illustrated lectures on the longstanding story of the bicycle as a catalyst for social change. I also drew a series of comics on little-known women in cycling history for The Adventure Cyclist.
